Setting up Debian for Android Development

After almost 9 months of beating around the bush, I finally started experimenting with developing Android Apps. I’m using Linux Mint Debian (based on Debian Testing), so after some googling, I used this excellent guide over at howtoforge.com:

Setting Up An Android App Build Environment With Eclipse, Android SDK, PhoneGap (Debian Squeeze)

Of course, I used the latest available version of every software mentioned (binary packages, not .deb as they were somewhat outdated in Testing). The only things I changed during the process of setting up was to edit nss.cfg so that I would not get the “nss initialization” error message on my 64-bit system:
sudo gedit /etc/java-6-openjdk/security/nss.cfg
and changed its content into the following (thanks to java.io.FileNotFoundException: /usr/lib/libnss3.so error on Debian Wheezy):
name = NSS
nssLibraryDirectory = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
nssDbMode = noDb
attributes = compatibility
I left may main user as owner of /etc/eclipse and I made sure that I used the right java, by:
sudo update-alternatives –config javac

sudo update-alternatives –config java
That’s all!

Blog statistics: Browsers & Operating Systems (July 2011)

This month’s statistics were very interesting… Compare the visitors who took some action on the content (print, email, like, tweet, share, etc) in the first table, against the general trend of visitors, in the second table… You’ll be able to tell a lot about the different mindsets of internet users, based on the software they’re using!

For example, Apple users seem to be extremely… sociable! Safari, the browser used by default in iOS, accounts for 1.5% of the total traffic, but it has contributed 18.75% of the total social sharing actions!

But the grand prize goes to iPad users: they may account for less than 0.3% of the total traffic, but they have actually contributed 12.5% of the sharing! WOW!

Visitors who printed, emailed, liked, tweeted or otherwise shared content (top four):

I’m currently trying out the livefyre comment management system, but it’s taking loads and loads of time for its first time run – particulartly to import all pre-existing comments. New comments are possible, older comments will appear when the process is complete. Sorry about that.

Upd: Now fixed!
